How To Increase Pageviews Of Your Blog

No doubt that to increase the traffic on your blog, you need to increase the number of pageviews that you receive on it. You might be receiving satisfactory or good number of unique visitors, but the thing to notice is whether or not are those visitors reading more of your content once they land up on your blog. The more content read by those visitors, the higher number of pageviews the blog gets. Also, private advertisers are always interested in the number of pageviews rather than the number of unique visitors because it shows how much are the visitors reading on your blog. Following are some ways on how to increase pageviews of your blog.

Make Use Of Excerpts

If you’re using a blog layout on your homepage or any other page, be sure to use excerpts on the homepage. In short, do not show full posts all together. This will not only decrease the potential incoming comments, but will also prevent the visitors to easily navigate through the other posts. If your blog is updated daily, this can be a disaster.

As mentioned several times on this blog, I always love the art of interlinking. Not only does it help the reader to learn more about the mentioned points in detail, but also helps in on-page SEO. But make sure you only interlink relevantly. For example, interlinking the word ‘money’ with an article titled ‘How To Make Money Blogging’ is not as relevant as it should be.

Showing Related Posts

Once the reader is done reading your article(s), you should always present them with ‘related’ posts under the post. This is easy done if you’re using WordPress as a platform. The related posts are normally chosen in two ways – 1) By the ‘tags’ used or 2) By the category the specific post belongs to.

Always make sure the display of the related posts is attractive. The use of images is a great advantage for this. You can visit this list of best related posts plugins and choose a good one that suits your blog. These plugins will definitely help you on how to increase pageviews of your blog.

Posts On Sidebar

It is recommended that you show ‘popular posts’ or ‘recent posts’ or even ‘random posts’ on the sidebar of your blog. This will just help your readers to read some great posts on your blog which they might have missed out, or might just make your visitors read something they didn’t come looking for – and they might just love it!

Some plugins in the link above also provide sidebar widgets – you hence need not go for other plugins. But undoubtedly there are special plugins for getting the sidebar widgets.

Use Of Archive and Category Pages

Archive and/or category pages are always useful if someone is looking for a tonne of information in a special category. What you, as the blog owner, need to do is to correctly place the category links so that they’re visible to the readers. They can hence visit the category pages. Most visitors often the articles in a new tab – hence helping you on how to increase pageviews of your blog.

Follow the above methods, and you should gradually see an increase in the number of pageviews your blog receives. If I didn’t mention above – quality content plays a vital role.

I like the idea of the related posts. I have not done that one yet. Thanks for the tip. I had done the most popular posts on sidebar until I cleaned it up – got me thinking again on that sidebar.

Hi Raaj – my blog traffic is suddenly falling off the clifffffff – not sure why – I already do most of what you recommend. Any other ideas or clues?

  • Reply Raaj Trambadia December 10, 2012, 6:49 pm

    Hello Dave
Well the decrease in traffic depends on a lot of things. I would first like to ask you about the main source of traffic for your blog. Let me know about it, and I would then proceed further.

  • Reply Dave Lucas December 10, 2012, 8:06 pm

The main source of traffic over the past several months has been from Google – it has been highly targeted after the googlebot would visit a new post on my blog – depending on the topic, a single Google entry might pull in an extra 300 or more visitors a day – these would usually run for anywhere form 2 to 10 days depending on how “hot” the topic.

I still get a steady stream of older, established posts via Google, yahoo and Bing – there are certain posts from as afar back as 2007 that faithfully deliver at least 2 or 3 hits a day.

Okay. You see, there have been a hell lot of changes in Google’s algorithms recently. I would like to ask you if there was a time when your blog suddenly started getting unexpected, but quality, traffic? If so, it might have been an algorithm update that caused that.

Therefore, you can take these sudden change of traffic as nothing but an update in Google’s algorithm which tends to affect many sites which do not deserve the hit. The solution to this is to continue producing quality, social shares (especially Google+) and building quality back links with all the white-hat ways.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Raaj,

I think adding related article links in the middle of your article increases click through rate .Also hyper-linking keywords with others articles helps to retain visitors a little bit longer .Adding funny pictures also aid you to attract visitors attention .

Hi Kushal. I’ve actually tried adding the ‘related article links’ between some of my posts. It does helps to increase pageviews but I personally believe it might be a harm to on-page SEO. What are your views on it?

Again top range advice here. I have been interlinking a few of my other posts to the latest post and I can see the difference, page views do increase. Also since I included “dont miss these” on the sidebar, I can see that they are also getting some views. So it does work. Also I am using related posts plugin which is a good idea.

    Good blog!

Tou can also think about navigation menu.

A good menu is important for website structure and helps to direct visitors directly where they desire. In a website development phase it is recommended to think as much ahead as possible and consider future developments of the business and website. Besides overall design it’s important to know the structure and menu. Tip: don’t use too long names on the menu and consider at least 1., 2. and 3. level possibility on the menu.
I’d rather suggest a lower website structure, not more than 3 levels. Users find simple structure easier to navigate and information is easily found. But of course, leave the opportunity to add 4. and 5. levels, as you can never be sure how the website is going to develop.
Search engines consider upper menu levels more important than lower levels. So don’t put important information on 3. or 4. level. Fewer users will visit these pages and search engines rate them as less relevant.
