Themes
This is just like buying clothes – but only once because after that, the clothes get updated automatically! Investing in a theme is one important thing for a blogger. Free themes are good, but premium themes are better. This blog runs on Thesis Framework and you can see how clean, neat yet beautiful it looks! The $187 (Developer Package) spent on this framework is worth. However, you can get Thesis Personal Package just for $87 by clicking this banner -
For this, all I could say is that if you’re going to a night club, you don’t wear your regular trousers and that old checkered shirt, do you? Get a leather jacket, a stunning pair of jeans and a rocking shirt to grab the attention of all. So if you’re looking on the first thing to invest in a blog, get a theme NOW!
Plugins – Are They Worth To Invest In A Blog?
Though most plugins are available for free, there are many useful plugins which are sold for a price. Those plugins are usually referred to as Premium Plugins. Even though the free versions are similar to to the premium ones, there are MANY hidden or visible differences! A Plugin is a great thing to invest in a blog. For a simple and normal blog, I would highly recommend using 2 Premium Plugins -
(i) Commentluv Premium
I definitely recommend this plugin. In face, I’ve written a post on How To Make Money With CommentLuv Premium
(ii) WP Subscribers
Another great plugin. It strongly helps you to increase your email subscribers. For that, you need to have an account with either Aweber, Mail Chimp, Get Response or similar email marketing programs.
These were 2 from me, but there are hundreds for you to choose from. Go get some premium plugins to make your blog a better place!
Subscription To Networks
This has only one name for now – BLOG ENGAGE! Apart from motivating its users, networks such as Blog Engage provide an enormous platform for a blogger – where the first priority is given to BLOGGING! Yes, there thousands of users worldwide who use Blog Engage and 99% of them don’t regret the amount they paid to join it!
So these were some investments that I think a blogger should definitely do for his/her blog. Do you have any more? Do add them in the comments!

Hi Ehsan.
Yes, commitment is one must thing to do.
Maybe you didn’t feel like spending on plugins, but trust me, it really matters. I can see on your blog that you don’t use email marketing. Maybe you should give it a try, and you never know what could it bring you! All the best with it.

Hey Simmeon
Currently, I’m not on the PUBLISHED list of Blog Engage, but hoping to be there sometime. About traffic, it’s not helping much BECAUSE I’m not a frequent user of Blog Engage. Actually, my schedule is really busy till 5th July. So I’m planning to give everything to my blog (and my new project where I’ve invested a lot of money!).
But BlogEngage REALLY REALLY helps you to improve your relationships with bloggers. I just have to press the accelerator once I’m free!
BTW, if you’re planning to join, do sign up with my aff link please
You can sign up from here – https://www.affiliatelights.com//idevaffiliate.php?id=506_2_1_91
All the best! And do join if you can. It really helps! All you need is some time to settle everything up there.

What we should really start investing for in a blog is a good hosting service. Having a good web hosting service means having a lot more revenue. There are a lot of free hosting services that have a more down times and thus means losing probable income that you would have earned from the time your site went down. Paid web hosting services are a lot more reliable than other hosting services, and if you want to make money you should make sure that you have a good investment.

Hey John. Yes, I agree that a good host is really a must and if possible, free hosting should be avoided at all costs (so ironic!). And yeah, down times might pi*s off the visitor and would influence him not to come back on the blog!

Hi Raaj….
Thanks for another cracking Article…..
I do believe that paid/premium stuff (either hosting, theme or plugin) have benefit over free stuff and you can realize it only when you start using paid one.

Right Sandeep. In fact, I started blogging with a pact that I would surely go for a premium version if I’m actually impressed by the free version (or the demo for that sake).

Out of the ones mentioned, the themes are perhaps the most important ones of them all. It is the theme that gives the looks, the feel. The plugins are also important but free ones are there. As you said there are hundreds to choose from but the main ones are the themes and some basic plugins.

That’s right Raaj. It’s a good thing to have premium plugins and theme. There are good free stuffs out there but the premium ones are highly recommended. Just like there is no serious business without investment, there is also no way you can succeed in blogging without some investment (of course, you need domain name and hosting).

The three investments — CommentLuv, Aweber, and Thesis — are proven winning investments in the blogosphere. I currently use MailChimp and Atahualpa theme, because they’re free. Even the free version of CommentLuv is worth getting, but the Premium version, which I have, is terrific. I’ve learned that it’s worth paying for premium tools.
