This question has been asked by many bloggers out there who somewhat don’t like to make the use of other sources of traffic and get more visitors to the blog. No doubt that such blogs do receive a good number of traffic from search engines (organic traffic), but yet the question remains the same whether one should completely rely upon organic traffic, or also depend on other traffic sources.
The blogs who receive such good organic traffic are often quality blogs which do provide quality content, have a well-designed theme, and stay on the white side than the black. Let’s see whether you should be only relying on organic traffic, or should always try to benefit from other great sources of traffic.
Yes – You Should Rely On Organic Traffic Only
If your blog is something which hardly has people interested on the social media, you do qualify to fall in this category of relying on organic traffic. This is because even though you might use legitimate ways to increase your social media fans (e.g. advertising on Facebook), those people might not be interested in everything you publish on your blog. On the other hand, we can take a look at an example for this.
Example – Assume that you’re blogging in the Gardening niche. Now even if you develop a good social base, do you think they will actually be interested in all the stuff that you post on your blog? I guess not. This is because one of the posts might have caught their attention, but not all would be very much appealing to them. If you posted “How To Plant A Seed”, they might already know or maybe just don’t want to know about it!
But when it comes to organic traffic, the user lands upon your articles as they search for it. This means, they are completely getting what they are looking for. Therefore, in such cases, you can highly rely upon organic traffic because social media might get you some traffic but it wouldn’t be worth anything as they hardly read anything – furthermore increase the bounce rate of your blog.
No – You Shouldn’t Rely On Organic Traffic Only
When you have a blog that actually has a lot of potentially interested people on social media and other platforms, then why not make the use of it? For such cases, you might even avoid organic traffic for some time until you develop a good base of readers on your social media networks. Let’s take a look at this with the help of an example.
Example – Assume that you have a blog on humor and sarcasm talking about celebs, movies, politicians etc. Now who wouldn’t be interested in such a great blog? In such cases you might not much organic traffic because the titles, text, images etc has to be matching your writing style which could be funny, sarcastic etc and hence might not do well on SERPs. If you publish a sarcastic article titled “I just met Mr. President“, search engines would not be helpful in bringing good traffic but social media will definitely be.
Conclusion
To conclude, it can be said that whether to completely rely upon organic traffic or not depends on the niche you are in. If it is limited to one thing (e.g Gardening), then you should be not dependent more on social media but search engines. When it’s the opposite, take all the advantages of social media my friend – it is astonishing.

Hi Raaj,

Good arguments!
You know the impact of social media on Organic traffic. Search Engines like Google these days also consider social signals for ranking. So I think it’s good practice to mix both
